The Kia Niro EV has been the subject of auto publications for some time now. The latest rounds of testing yielded very impressive numbers. They show a total of 301 miles of range on electric alone. If this figure is accurate, this may potentially be the most powerful electric vehicle to date.

Testers used the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) to yield the 301-mile total range. That’s not all; they also discovered that the total distance increases to 382 miles if operated in an “urban-only” zone.

The Kia Niro EV utilizes a 64-kilowatt-hour battery, which can be charged to 80 percent of its capacity in just 54 minutes if using a 1-kilowatt fast charger. That comes down to 4.46 miles for every 60 seconds of charge time.

How do these figures compare with other electric vehicles? For starters, a competing brand’s electric vehicle has a range of just 249 miles despite having a larger 95 kWh battery.

We can’t say for certain, though, that the Kia Niro is definitively the most powerful electric vehicle. The WLTP method is a different testing modality compared to the methods used by the Environmental Protection Agency and other car brands. These different procedures result in different output and figures.

The Kia Niro EV is slated to arrive in the United States later this year. With an estimated 201 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque, along with its efficient powertrain, you don’t want to miss this new Kia model.
