Kia Plug-In Hybrid vs Hybrid vs Electric

Electric Cars

With Kia continuing to expand its electric and hybrid car options, now is the perfect time to learn about what makes them different. Despite all of them sharing a lower dependence on conventional fuel, the difference between a Kia Plug-In Hybrid and an all-electric vehicle is more significant than you might expect. Before you explore our electrified lineup at our Avenel, NJ, Kia dealership, let’s take a look at what sets them all apart.

Electric

With all-electric vehicles, you won’t have to think about gasoline at all. This provides the clear advantage of avoiding paying for gas at fluctuating prices. That’s because EVs are completely powered by an electric motor and battery pack. The 2023 Kia Niro EV is a great example of a capable sport utility EV.

Of course, all this comes with the caveat that electric vehicles often require the installation of a Level Two charger due to their need for regular recharging. If you are unable to install the necessary infrastructure to power your EV, then it may be better to consider one of our hybrid options instead.

Hybrid

Hybrid vehicles are built with both an engine and an electric motor. Instead of taking on the main workload involved with driving, the motor is there to support the engine and preserve fuel. At low speeds, a hybrid will use the motor, and when you accelerate the motor will transition control to the engine.

Hybrid vehicles do not need to be plugged in to charge; instead, the regenerative braking process will refill your battery gradually. The Kia Sorento Hybrid even has AWD capability to complement its hybrid efficiency.

Plug-In Hybrid

Plug-in hybrid vehicles are similar to hybrid vehicles, except they take the plug-in aspect of an electric vehicle along with a larger battery. They typically have a larger all-electric range than hybrid models, and you can plug in at a charging station or refuel at the gas station.

As your battery depletes while you drive, the gasoline engine will take over and regenerative braking will maintain the motor. The Kia Sportage Plug-In Hybrid is a versatile member of Kia’s plug-in hybrid lineup.
