Jump Starting a Car

Many of us have experienced the sinking feeling of trying to start a car with a dead battery. You might have left the interior lights on, or maybe the battery was starting to get old. Regardless, knowing how to jump-start your car is a valuable skill that will get you out of a jam. Here is a quick how-to from the experts at our Kia service center.

Jumping The Battery

All you need is a pair of jumper cables and the assistance of another car to help get you started.

  1. Park both cars parallel or facing each other directly.
  2. Make sure both vehicles have been turned off.
  3. Connect one red clamp of the jumper cable to your dead battery’s positive terminal.
  4. Connect the other red clamp to the booster battery’s positive terminal.
  5. Connect one black clamp to the booster battery’s negative terminal.
  6. Connect the other black clamp to an unpainted metal surface of your dead car.
  7. Start the engine of the working car, then after a few minutes, start your car.
  8. Disconnect the cables in the reverse order that you placed them.
